Celebs, netizens express frustration over Sen. Bato dela Rosa’s lack of empathy with 11,000 people losing their jobs if ABS-CBN closes

Dela Rosa expressed doubt that thousands of people would lose jobs if the network loses its franchise.

Many netizens have expressed disappointment with Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa for saying that the welfare of the nation was more important than 11,000 people who could lose their jobs if ABS-CBN Corp. fails to renew its franchise.

Dela Rosa on Tuesday expressed doubts that thousands of people would lose jobs if the network loses its franchise.

“Is it really 11,000? Are you sure? Anyway, regardless of how many, what is 11,000 (people) compared to the whole Filipino nation na matagal nang sinamantalahan ng isang kumpanya?” the Senator told reporters at the Senate.

“If that can be proven during the hearing, what is 11,000 compared to the whole Filipino nation?” he added.

Nevertheless, the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief noted that he would still support the hearings on ABS-CBN’s franchise in the Senate and that he would vote based on the merits of the case.

“Kung mabigat ‘yung akusasyon na talagang maraming viniolate ABS-CBN, bakit mo pa i-renew?” Dela Rosa said.

“Kung talagang ma-prove sa hearing na grabe ‘yung sinamantala ng husto ng ABS-CBN ang sambayanang Pilipino, bakit mo pa i-renew?” he added.

Dela Rosa said both the Senate and Congress should hear the network’s franchise bill to give a fair chance to stakeholders who either benefited or suffered from the network’s operations.

“Dapat may hearing para ma-prove talaga kung ano yung totoo. Mahirap kung puro allegations lang,” he noted.

Then Dela Rosa admitted that he’s biased towards President Rodrigo Duterte, whom he believes is doing everything for the Filipino people.

“Ako, I will live and die with President Duterte. I will sink and swim with him,” he said.

“Hindi ako plastic na magsabing wala akong bias. Totoong tao ako na magsabi na may bias ako towards the President,” he added.

However, the Senator stressed that he’s not a blind follower of Duterte and that he would still be making his own decisions.

“I have my own mind. It just happened that our minds are synchronized, our minds are parallel, our minds are going in the same direction but I’m not blind. I’m using my mind,” Dela Rosa noted.

He said he and Duterte both have similar objectives in life.

Dela Rosa said their objectives in life is that the government must rule in the country and that the Filipinos will benefit.

Duterte has been issuing threats not to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN since 2017 following accusations that the network did not air his political advertisements during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Many netizens, including well-known personalities, have aired on Twitter their frustrations after hearing Dela Rosa’s side on the ABS-CBN franchise renewal.

Several netizens even called for his resignation for being “bias” to the President.

Here are some of the netizens’ comments:

Singer Jim Paredes said: “What is one man’s loss of a US VISA compared to the loss of a whole nation’s security?”

“Of course Bato won’t care about the 11,000 employees of ABS-CBN. It’s the same guy who said ‘shit happens’ when asked about a 3-year-old getting killed in the drug war. It’s the same guy who led the bloody drug war. For him, people’s lives have no value,” film director Kip Oebanda noted.

For her part, actress-singer Agot Isidro said: “Sir, allegiance to country first! Dapat di kayo nag-senador kung biased kayo. Nakakapanlumo. Paano na, Pilipinas. Tayo-tayo lang ito.”

Radio star DJ Chacha, on the other hand, said: “I suggest mag-resign na dapat si Senator Bato sa pagiging senador at mag-apply na bodyguard ng Presidente tutal naman ang loyalty niya ay sa Pangulo at hindi sa taong bayan.”

“STUPID BATO!”

“Batong bato naman po ang puso nyo. Hindi ko alam kung san nanggagaling yung tibay ng sikmura at puso nyo Senator na ipagwalang bahala ang 11,000 manggagawa (pakisama pati pamilyang sinusuportahan nila sa bilang). Malinaw na hindi po kapakanan ng mga Filipino ang intensyon nyo.”

“Bato Dela Rosa shouldn’t be elected as a senator to begin with. He only shows ignorance, incompetence and pure stupidity. He just admitted that he is serving for his President and obviously not for the Filipinos. Swim and sink pa siya ehh. Swimmer ka ghorl???”

“What is one Bato compared to 100M Filipinos, di ba? Remember: Duterte junked VFA (Visiting Forces Agreement) for his pal, Bato dela Rosa.”

“If Bato is working for ‘his President’ and not for the people then Bato should resign from his post.”

“Good night except kay Senator Bato. I hate you 11,000 times.”

“Bato on ABS-CBN franchise renewal: ‘I will live and die with my President. May bias ako towards my Pres.’ This is when we all lose – when we have a legislator who is not impartial, who is dictated by someone, who advances personal interest. I feel so sorry for our country.”

“I’m one of the 11,000 so f*ck you Bato. We will never forget.”

“It’s better to shutdown Bato from the government than the ABS-CBN.”

The 25-year franchise of ABS-CBN will expire on March 30.

To date, there are at least 11 pending bills seeking franchise renewal for ABS-CBN.

However, the House committee on legislative franchises has yet to tackle any of the measures.

Last week, Senator Grace Poe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, has filed a resolution to hold hearings on alleged franchise violations by ABS-CBN Corp. and its subsidiary ABS-CBN Converge.

The Senate has set the first public hearing on the renewal of the franchise of ABS-CBN on February 24.
