QCPD files homicide complaint against cop who killed retired soldier Winston Ragos

It was said that Ragos was carrying a handgun inside his bag. However, witnesses and family members say that he only had a water bottle and his quarantine pass.

In a text message on Thursday, Quezon City Police District Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo confirmed that a homicide complaint has been filed against Master Sergeant Daniel Florendo Jr who shot and killed 34-year old retired veteran Winston Ragos.

Ragos was shot on April 21, Tuesday, after he got into a heated standoff with Florendo at a checkpoint in Barangay Pasong Putik.

The suspect asked Ragos to go home because the latter was violating ECQ guidelines.

The CCTV footage shows Ragos turning his back on Florendo as he raised both his hands. There were other cops present but not one of them cuffed Ragos. Ragos was then shot twice after he reached into his sling bag, dying before nurses at the Commonwealth Hospital could do anything to save him.

It was said that Ragos was carrying a handgun inside his bag. However, witnesses and family members say that he only had a water bottle and his quarantine pass.

Now, reports say that Ragos was in fact carrying a .38 revolver, which is unusual for a former soldier to be toting.

Many criticized the handling of the situation and attributed the shooting to President Rodrigo Duterte’s past comments telling police to ‘shoot dead’ violent ECQ violators.

But there are still a good number of people who buy into the propaganda against Ragos.
