Sen. Manny Pacquiao proposes ‘New Normal Law’ amid COVID-19 pandemic

Senator Manny Pacquiao suggests the New Normal Law bill to maintain social distancing even after ECQ.

  • He said that he thinks that the government couldn’t enforce social distancing properly without the law.

Amid the country’s battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Senator Manny Pacquiao shared that a bill seeking to normalize and enforce social distancing practices in different establishments will be filed in the Senate.

It will be called the New Normal Law.

He said that he is saddened by the situation but he found the need for new law in case the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) ends.

“Nakakalungkot mang isipin ngunit kailangan talaga nating magkaroon ng panibagong patarakaran sa ating pakikisalamuha kung sakaling mawala na itong ipinapatupad na Enhanced Community Quarantine,” he said in a statement.

Pacquiao added that while there are no vaccines available against COVID-19, the public should strictly follow social distancing measures.

“In short, itong social distancing ang magiging new normal sa panahon ng COVID. And I think we cannot enforce this properly without the force of law. That is why I will be pushing this New Normal Law so that we can enforce it and require people to follow it.”

Netizens reacted to the senator’s proposal, saying that it should be something that is no longer needed to enforce as it’s already become a habit of people because of the situation.

A netizen also poked fun at Pacquiao’s New Normal Law by suggesting that he should also include video conferencing apps as it has become a “new normal” during the ECQ.

Other netizens joked about his proposal.
