Restaurant staff gives free food to a hungry old man

Broadcast journalist Lia Del Castillo posted about a touching scene she saw in a pizza chain.

  • She wrote that a waitress did not hesitate to give an old hungry man a free box of pizza.
  • After witnessing the waitress’s kind heart, others also offered the man a helping hand.

ABS-CBN reporter Lia Del Castillo shared a heartwarming story of an old man that was eyeing some pizza in one of the well-known chains in the country.

Del Castillo said that while having dinner at Yellow Cab at SM The Block, she saw an old man who was looking at the leftovers on the table adjacent to them. But it seems like the man saw nothing and just drank the remaining water from the pitcher.

What happened next was not something that she expected.

A waitress approached him and asked him what he needed. To the netizen’s surprise, the waitress proceeded to tell the man that they will give him some food.

“The waitress handed him a whole box of pizza. To his delight, the old man almost wanted to cry. He ate and kept the leftover in his bag and waited for the waitress to pass by him. When she did, the old man said ‘Salamat’ then left,” Castillo wrote.

But it doesn’t end there. A group of men saw what happened and gave the old man some money.

The reporter then shared that even though she often encounters things like this given the nature of her work, it still never gets old for her.

“The kindness of people, the generosity and selflessness of others still amaze me. I told my husband, the waitress could have shooed the old guy away but she didn’t. She didn’t give him a set meal (which was what I expected), and instead gave him her free box of pizza. One whole box.”

She added that the waitress even treated the old man as if he’s a paying customer by serving him and calling him “sir.”
