Late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s husband made a statement to recently crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo.
On the late Senator’s official Facebook page, Narciso Santiago Jr shared GMA News’ photo of Mateo’s answer during the question and answer portion of the beauty pageant saying that Miriam was the “best president we never had.”
Narciso said that he and his whole family appreciated her words towards his late wife.
“To the newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020, congratulations! Me and my Family would like to give you our heartful gratitude and appreciation for your kind and wonderful comment on my wife, Miriam,” he wrote.
He then added that he hopes the best for Mateo and that if she needs help, they are willing to offer a hand.
“We hope that you would be successful in attaining all your goals in life. Just in case you will be needing help, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll be more than happy to help you. Thank you.”
During the Miss Universe Philippines competition, Mateo was asked if she was given the chance to put anyone in a new paper currency, who would it be. She then answered the late senator because she admired her knowledge and want to be the same as Defensor-Santiago.
“She was an Ilongga. But what I admire about her is that she used her knowledge, her voice to serve the country. I want to be somebody like her. Somebody who puts her heart, her passion into action. After all, she is the best president that we never had,” Mateo answered.
