The Philippine Statistics Authority released a report on Monday saying that less people in the country are getting married.
431,972 marriages were registered in 2019 with only 1,183 of those being solemnized. This figure is lower than the 449,169 in 2018 but significantly higher than 2016’s 419,000.
December of 2019 had the most marriages registered, which made up 12% of the total marriages in the said year.
38.2 percent of the marriages were done through civil ceremonies, 36.2 through the Roman Catholic Church, 22.9 percent through religious rites and Muslim tradition or tribal ceremonies made up 1.4 percent and 0.9 percent of the marriages respectively.
CALABARZON, NCR, and Central Luzon remained at the top with the most marriages registered in 2019.
NCR’s figured dropped down by 7.6 percent while ARMM’s decreased down to 17%, the highest as shown by data.
2019 also saw more women marrying younger compared to men. Men had a median age of 29 years while women had it at 27 years. But both genders usually still marry between the ages of 25 to 29 years old.
96.4% of marriages happened between Filipinos of the two real genders, which was at 416,542, while 15,047 were between Filipinos and foreigners.
More Filipino men married Americans (16.6 percent), followed by Australian (14%), Canadian (12.3%), Chinese (7.2%), and Japanese (7.1%), said the report.
The study, which is based on the certificate of marriages that were registered at the Office of the City or Municipal Civil Registrars nationwide from January to December 2019, also said that most of intermarriages with Filipino women were with American men (26.8%), followed by Japanese (10.6%), British (6.6%), Korean (6.3%), and Canadian (5.7%).
