Television personality and host Willie Revillame looked back on the start of his career when his former co-host Randy Santiago appeared as a guest on Wowowin.
The two had a Wowowin reunion on February 15 which made them reminisce the past that they shared together in GMA Network. Willie shared that their careers started off in the Kapuso network when they were tasked to host the noontime variety show Lunch Date in the late 1980s.
“Dito kami nagsimula. Sa studio dun sa likod. Lunch Date. Kinuha niya akong sidekick niya,” he said.
They also looked back to when they stayed in Singapore for 4 months because of a project. Willie said that he was a drummer for singer Gary Valenciano when Randy’s band hired him to play for them.
“1984, nasa Singapore tayo. Four months tayo dun… Kasi drummer ako dati ni Gary Valenciano. Eh yung drummer [ng Cicada Band], si Tek Faustino, pumunta ng America. Eh aalis sila papuntang Singapore, walang papalit. Yung management natin, isa lang. Eh sabi niyo, walang drummer na available. Ako na kay Gary Valenciano. Nagkasama kami sa Singapore,” the Wowowin host recalled.
“Nasa isang kwarto kami. Buong stay namin sa Singapore. Kaya yung bonding namin [ni Willie] talagang naging maganda,” Randy added.
The two went on telling stories about their experiences together in Singapore. Willie even said that he didn’t have any money back then so he would always borrow clothes from Randy.
“Nung tumutugtog kami, siyempre mahirap lang ako, lahat ng damit ko hinihiram ko sa kanya. Pero ang nakakatuwa dito, uuwi tayo madaling araw, tayo ang naglalaba sa washing machine.”
Randy also joked about Willy borrowing his newly purchased clothes even though it was the two of them who went shopping.
Willie later decided to transfer to ABS-CBN in 1998 as he hosted the noontime show ‘Sang Linggo nAPO Sila. He then made his big break in Magandang Tanghali Bayan and started appearing in Richard Loves Lucy. Since then he has hosted Willingly Yours, Wowowee, Willing Willie, Wil Time Bigtime, and Wowowillie.
In March 2015, Willie came back to GMA Network and launched his then-weekly variety program, Wowowin. The show became a daily show in February 2016 due to its popularity.
