A new study has recently found that most of the people who are against the Black Lives Matter movement (BLM) and trans rights suffer from a wrong “perception of reality.”
Titled “The ‘fault lines’ in the UK’s culture wars“ by the Policy Institute at King’s College London and Ipsos MORI, the research examined the viewpoints of respondents “on each side of six high-profile issues”.
The six issues were labeled as “prominent current debates” which comprised of BLM, transgender rights, partisanship, the British empire, COVID-19, and Brexit.
The three elements “culture war issues” were the focus of the study, namely “How strongly people identify with a ‘side’ in a culture war debate, the social distance between one side and the other side, and whether group identity affects perceptions of measurable realities.”
Individuals who identify as “more” liberal admitted it’d be difficult to have a relationship with people “who take the opposing point of view,” while right-leaning respondents or the ones who are more traditional were then found to have a distorted sense of reality. Those who are not in favor of the BLM movement and believe trans rights have “gone too far” do not agree with factual realities.
31 percent said “trans rights have not gone far enough” in the UK while another 31 percent think “trans rights have gone as far as they should.” 17 percent also said trans rights have “gone too far.”
67 percent of those who were in the “gone too far” category did not know that in the UK, trans people had higher chances of becoming a victim of a crime. 79 percent meanwhile were informed about this statistic.
Respondents opposing the BLM movement were skeptical of the fact that “Black African, the Caribbean or Black British employees earned around nine percent less than White British employees,” with 30 percent saying they believe both black and white workers have similar salaries.
67 percent of conservatives also believe that the British Empire is something people should be proud of.
The BLM movement is considered a terrorist organization as well by many.
