Broadcaster Lourd de Veyra has given the term ‘Noynoying” a more positive definition.
On his program Word of the Lourd, decided to honor the memory of the late Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III by redefining Noynoying, a word used to criticize the former President’s “work ethic.”
De Veyra recalled how activists came up with the term but he did not expect that someone else would prove to be much worse than Noynoy.
“May inimbentong termino ang mga aktibista noong 2012 kay PNoy dahil sa kanyang umano’y katamaran at kabagalan sa pagtugon sa maraming problema noon—ang “Noynoying.” he said.
“Pero, akalain mo yun? May mas grabe pa pala sa kanya. So hindi kaya oras na para magkaroon ng makabagong kahulugan ang Noynoying?” he added.
To De Veyra, Noynoying means being transparent and incorruptible. It means serving your countrymen despite what critics say, and displaying to the public what a great role model should look like.
Noynoy died of renal disease secondary to diabetes on June 24. During his administration, the Philippine economy was booming. And unlike the incumbent, he brought China to court over its expansive maritime claims in the West Philippine Sea.
