A Special Education teacher from Buyos Elementary School, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte has captured the heart of the Filipino public after he spent his own money to transform the classroom of his students.
SPED teacher Cyrell Jones Sidlao handles students who suffer from cognitive problems associated with memory and concentration.
“They are the learners who don’t remember the lessons every day, so we do lesson recap every day,” he said in an interview.
He noted that the classroom did not look neat which constantly distracts his students. This in turn will make the learning process much more difficult.
Since there have been talks about allowing face-to-face classes to resume, he thought it’d be a great idea for him to do a classroom makeover just so his students can have a better learning experience.
“Kapag bumalik na po tayo sa face-to-face classes, gusto ko po yung classroom ko ready na. Given na yung mga students ko with learning disabilities, sila yung mga learners na madali silang nadi-distract. So, ayun nagrenovate ako,” he said.
On his YouTube channel, he shared the newly renovated space and it was nothing short of impressive.
The entire room was significantly more vibrant with white walls mixed with light-colored wallpapers.
According, he spent P20,000 of his own money. Cyrell did not mind it though as long as it makes his job easier.
“It’s really quite challenging, but the good thing is when they learn the lesson, it’s also very fulfilling, “You will really make a way to help your learners feel comfortable. Gusto ko pagpasok nila excited and hindi sila madaling madi-distract.”
His initiative was all over the internet, even being featured by well-known media outlets.
