Filmmaker Andoy Ranay decided to stay a Kapamilya despite ABS-CBN’s unfortunate shutdown because he believes the network produces content that is “world-class quality.”
In a media conference of iWantTFC’s latest original series, My Sunset Girl, Ranay said the decision of a congressional franchise to deny the network a franchise renewal was one of the most “painful” and “difficult” times.
“It was one of the most difficult times and the most painful time because you’re working for that company you love, the people you love, [and] your family,” he said when asked what he feels a year after the shutdown.
He acknowledged that former ABS-CBN employees, including staff members, have moved on to other networks due to the lack of opportunities to be a Kapamilya.
“It’s not going to be easy for everyone especially yung mga katrabaho namin. DI na namin makikita ulit or nasa ibang kompanya na. Pero since maliit yung industriya, nakikita mo pa rin sila pero hindi na sila Kapamilya.”
But despite the network’s struggles, Ranay did not leave because ABS-CBN’s content is of “world-class quality,” adding that a franchise to operate is useless if the products of a network are “trash.”
“The reason why I stayed is because I believe that the content ABS-CBN is producing, may franchise or wala, is world-class quality.”
“Aanhin mo yung franchise kung basura yung trabaho. Hanggang dulo, magkasama tayo,” he said.
My Sunset Girl can be streamed on iWantTFC starting July 14.
