Dizon has unmistakably solid pieces of evidence that only promising stars could possess: she has won Best Actress at the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival and earned a nomination for the same category at the Gawad Urian.
She will headline her first primetime series next month.
The birth of Charlie Dizon, the actress, may not have been possible without the intervention of ABS-CBN top executive Charo Santos. Born April Rose Dizon Matienzo, the up-and-coming star acquired her stage name through the former ABS-CBN president. Santos [surely] believed the name fit perfectly for a future superstar, and it’s not that difficult to understand why.
Dizon broke new ground when she played the titular fangirl in the MMFF film, Dizon starred along with Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino. It is not too often for an emerging star to take on challenging roles like Jane very early in their career. But Dizon, who then had to prove her mettle in handling such roles. She did it anyway, and she blew spectators away.
ABS-CBN’s investment in Dizon’s promising career is well-reflected on the projects it has given her in the past year. Last year, she played the teenage version of Toni Gonzaga in the prequel film Four Sisters Before the Wedding. She had her first lead series role via the iWantTFC original, My Sunset Girl. She was also impressed with her dramatic performance in her first starring role in an MMK episode. Before these, she already made her mark on the military-themed primetime series, A Soldier’s Heart, as a young Muslim who fell in love with a Christian
It’s hard to miss the signs that announce the arrival of a future superstar in Charlie. She is a talent waiting to explode and radiant beauty to complete the package. And with an upcoming primetime drama that marks the first time she headlined such a big project, an incredible amount of attention will be on her. Viral Scandal, her first starring role in a TV series, debuts next month.
With many aspiring young stars simultaneously staking their claim to being the next big thing in showbiz, at the moment, it’s a wonder how a talent such as Charlie’s could both intimidate her contemporaries and give hope to her recuperating home network. A rare gem like her will undoubtedly make her way ahead of the others, but she may be an inspiring model, too.
The role she is currently taking in helping ABS-CBN succeed in its quest to stay afloat and ultimately reclaim the place it lost in the wake of its free TV shutdown last year is utterly important.
That seems to be an earnest role that many talents of the network are playing, and as the network continuously moves forward and rises, so do its talents; so, does Charlie.
