No one expected school modules to become such a controversial topic when all academic institutions in the country resorted to distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some modules produced by the Department of Education were questioned by parents for being too over the top, nonsensical, and not child-friendly.
However, some came out hilarious. The latest one that made netizens laugh required students toΒ “Ask a person who experienced the Spanish era.”
Everyone knew that the task was nearly impossible to achieve as even the oldest person in the country couldn’t give satisfying answers to that question.
And as usual, memes about the activity were created. One joked that students might need an Ouija board to finish the exercise.
The Philippines' Department of Education issued a K-12 module that included an assignment for students to interview someone "who experienced the Spanish Era." Since that historical era ended in 1898, they should have also provided this as equipment: pic.twitter.com/hy0Qw0kCe5

Not a lot of thought was put in when the module was written.
Kalokohan na naman ng DepEd π Lola ko nga Japanese Occupation lang naabutan and you're suggesting na mag interview ang mga bata sa mga nakaabot sa Spanish Era??? Ay wowwwww!! π https://t.co/QBgLnfhIyu

Ask a person who experienced the Spanish Era? Online class ba talaga yan o spirit of the glass? #DepEd #Onlineclass

Kasama siguro sa activities ng DepEd ang field trip through time travel. Utusan ba naman ang estudyante na mag-interview ng mga nabuhay during Spanish era. Lol! pic.twitter.com/CNpYMh2Hk6

UP Law Professor Jay Batongbacal slammed the DepEd to include such an assignment in the K-12 program.

The DepEd clarified that the module was published by a private institution.
“This is not a DepEd module. It’s published by a private institution,” it said in a statement.
