The 2022 presidential candidate recently went viral after a video showing him jerking away from supporters who were reaching out for a handshake surfaced online.
Bongbong Marcos’ camp immediately responded to the recent viral clip, which put the defeated 2016 vice-presidentiable Bongbong Marcos in a bad light.
Now a presidential aspirant, Marcos sparked the ire of netizens who were quick to take the former senator’s gesture as an aversion to the very same voters he was courting for a vote. Twitter user Terrio Garcia said on his tweet that went viral “Luh! LBM niyo wala sa mood? Diring-diri naman mahawakan yan? Sino ngayon elitista?”.

The clip also went viral on the video-sharing app, TikTok. twitter user, Keynote Chan echoed Garcia’s sentiment. In a quote tweet, he said “Diring-diri? May attitude.”

The following day, BBM’s camp cleared the issue by addressing the criticisms.
“Hindi umiiwas sa handshake si BBM, kundi iniiwas lamang ang kanyang kamay na nagkasugat sa braso malapit sa may pulso na tila nagka-impeksyon, (He’s not avoiding from handshakes. He was just trying to protect his hand, near the wrist, which got wounded and infected),” Atty. Vic Rodriguez, the presidential aspirant’s campaign spokesperson said.
A photo of a visibly unwell Marcos, which shows his left wrist with a bandage, was also released.
Rodriguez also noted to not squeeze Marcos Jr’s wrist so the infection won’t worsen.
Commission on Elections (COMELEC), on the other hand, enforced Resolution 10372, which prohibits 2022 national polls candidates from shaking the hands of the would-be voters. This is per the [still] prevailing safety and health protocols enforced by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
That said, netizens are also quick to scrutinize the photo released by Marcos’ camp. The photo which showed Marcos’ left wrist with a bandage, does not quite correspond to the viral clip, which showed the presidentiable shunning his right—not the left—hand, away from supporters, who joined him in a recent campaign sortie in Caloocan.
On facebook, netizens ridiculed Marcos’s excuse, noting the inconsistency in their responses.
“Proud pa rin kayo sa candidate nyo? Maraming ng palusot na palpak naman. Ang magalit sa comment ay triggered haha” user Terri Mafrance asked.
Asha Ancheta Castañeda “on the other hand, teased the presidentiable’s alleged acting skills. “Yan na naman tayo eh! Malamang si Paul Soriano director.🤣😂”
Marcos camp is yet to shed light upon this yet another mystery.
