Certified OPM Fan: Sen. Imee Marcos reveals Spotify playlist

TECHNOLOGY is undoubtedly playing a major role today as the global community copes with the on-going pandemic.

From countless online streaming platforms to a massive slew of social media sites, the net has been an instant and easily accessible source of much needed information and entertainment as a huge number of people are still opting to stay indoors and work from home.

This Saturday, Feb. 19, Imee Marcos gears up for another exciting Vlog entry on her official YouTube Channel as she sits back and goes sound tripping while revealing 10 of her most favorite OPM songs that made it on her Spotify playlist. These are songs that defined her childhood; songs that she enjoys while unwinding after a long day; and songs that reflect the ideologies that she is most passionate about.

As a staunch patron of the performing arts, Imee is a certified OPM fan and her song choices ranges from homegrown classics to current chart-toppers – an eclectic line-up of songs that are centered on such themes as nationalism and romance.

It should be noted that Imee was a major proponent and chairperson of The Metro Manila Popular Music Festival or Metropop that was launched by the Popular Music Foundation Of The Philippines in 19977 and was held annually from 1978 to 1985.

Metropop was the country’s pioneering songwriting competition that aimed to promote the advancement of original Filipino music. The festival launched the careers of many legendary songwriters and the singers who interpreted their creations while contributing a lot of the most memorable and well-loved classics in the prodigious catalogue of OPM.

“Ka Doroy Valencia was a distinguished journalist with big ideas. He was also a close family friend who dreamed for years with my Mom of a park for the people. When my Dad became President, this became the rehabilitated Luneta Park, Intramuros Administration, and Nayong Pilipino among many others,” recalls Imee. “He [Ka Doroy] also tried for years to get a Filipino composer award going and started Metropop. But for lack of government and financial support it wouldn’t take off and participants were largely limited to Metro Manila. My Mom, ever the classicist, didn’t understand Ka Doroy’s and my enthusiasm. But as my family’s purveyor of popular entertainment, I determined to team-up with Ka Doroy, recruited Vic Del Rosario and commercial sector, and made sure GMA-7 thru Tony Barreiro would cover the contest thoroughly together with the government networks. The rest is OPM history, I guess.”

This Saturday, discover Imee’s favorite OPM songs and see if it matches yours and subscribe to her official YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/ImeeMarcosOfficial/featured.
