Vice President Leni Robredo urged her supporters to continue fighting disinformation after someone claimed that the attendees of the Pink rally in Pasig City were paid.
A certain Ronnie Lamboso Morgan went on Facebook and said his friend’s sister was given P1000 to attend the rally. He also alleged that most of the attendees were from the New People’s Army.
His post contained a photo of a P1000 bill with a pink ribbon taken from a conversation on Facebook’s Messenger, leading many to believe the lie. Ronnie claimed that an arrest warrant was “on its way” for Robredo supporters.
However, the conversation was dated March 11. The Pink rally was held on March 20.
The vice president defended her army because “people lined up for so many hours, braving the heat and the crowds.”
“Abonado pa ang karamihan sa kanila. Huwag natin hayaan yurakan ang ating dignidad ng mga kasinungalingan. Nang red tag pa. Please help us report,” she wrote.
The “PasigLaban” rally on Sunday drew over 140,000 people. But other estimates came out with nearly over 150,000.
Over the weekend, Robredo highlighted two studies that found her the top victim of social media information while rival Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. benefited the most from it. A previous research also found similar results.
