Some Filipinas proudly flex their no-shave armpit as they do the trending hairy armpit reveal challenge online.
Wish Nicole Ong is one of the Filipinas who proudly flexes her no-shave armpits on social media. According to her, it has been more than one year of not shaving her hairy armpits.
She narrated in an interview with GMA News that since she was just at home due to the pandemic and because of the irritation made by shaving, she doesn’t shave her armpits anymore.
“Di po ako naga-shave kasi po nasa bahay naman po since pandemic nasa bahay naman po ako di na po ako naga-shave… everytime po naga-shave ako, nagwawax ako, nasusugatan po, na-iirritate po siya,” Ong revealed.
Another face of the hairy armpit-reveal challenge who shared her testimony is Sharry Borres. She admitted that she has not been shaving for more than five years.
Borres revealed that she suffers from skin irritation due to shaving.
“Pinipigsa po talaga ako sa kili kili pag mag aahit o magshe-shave,” Borres confessed.
She said that not shaving made her comfortable.
“Dun ko pla mas na-feel na comfortable ako sa hindi pag-aahit,” she explained.
She continued by revealing how this affected how men see her.
“Ay nakakaturn off mas maganda yata na mag-ahit ka ng kili-kili kasi mas maganda at nkakababae tignan,” she continued.
The two women revealed that the said challenge was not just a challenge but a source of confidence and acceptance of one’s body.
“Naboost ko na po ang confidence ko,” Ong revealed.
“Iba yung rules ko sa sarili ko na ito ako kailangan na ipakita ko sa kanila na ito ito ‘yung meron ako at normal siya,” Borres added.
Prof. Douglas Pena in an interview said, “Noong unang panahon hindi naman nag-aahit sa kili-kili ang kababaihan. Later nung ’60s, nagiging moderno na ang paligid kaya nauso na pag-aahit at hindi na ayon sa panahon.”
