Vice President Leni Robredo remains a viable target for trolls despite clearly losing the presidential race.
Speaking before thousands at a rally on May 13 at the Ateneo de Manila University, Robredo called on her supporters to fully accept the results of the elections without mentioning the name of president-elect Bongbong Marcos.
“We need to accept the majority’s decision,” she said. “I plead that you join me in this cause.”
She said that her team is looking into the possibility of election fraud, stressing that “as the picture becomes clearer, we need to start accepting that the results of the elections did not go according to our plan.”
Robredo also promised to continue fighting disinformation even out of office. And it seems that she may need to ramp up her efforts as disinformation and trolls continue attacking her.
Most recently, three people got reported by netizens for spreading false information targeting Robredo.
A Cebu Pacific pilot claimed that the vice president demanded a priority landing at NAIA, which turned out to be untrue. Van Raňoa, the pilot in question, has since deleted his post.
Also, a foolish comment of Robredo’s critic went viral. After the vice president’s daughter Jillian Robredo graduated from New York University, a certain Melina Barlis asked if there was a need to take photos of the event.
Lastly, a guy pretending to be a Kakampink also made a story about Robredo. Ernest Leigh, a graduate of Ateneo de Davao, stalked the Vice President in New York, and he maliciously commented about her on social media.
Ernest clarified in his post that he’s not an illegal immigrant for 14 years.
