Fernando expressed his pride in coming up with a show with not just an excellent storyline but allows actors to tackle dangerous and authentic roles.
Cast members of the highly-anticipated sexy drama, A Family Affair, spoke to members of the press, during the grand media launch, held on Wednesday, June 15. They were joined by directors and the creative team of the series, headed by Jay Fernando, who beamed with pride as he revealed details of the upcoming primetime drama.
A Family Affair makes its debut on Primetime Bida on June 27. It marks the first time the Kapamilya actress and popular social media personality, Ivana Alawi, tackles a lead role in an ABS-CBN teleserye.
“She will be a star” Fernando unabashedly predicted, as he shared how the character was made tailor-fit for the actress, after Bea Alonzo, who was originally chosen to play the lead role, left ABS-CBN in 2021.
“We changed the entire show, all of it was completely…even the core of the conflicT. We had to change it to suit Ivana…kasi may mga magagawa si Ivana na other actress can not do. You can see in the program na may magagawa sya na modern, and new, and exciting, and that is what we kept and what we expanded, to make the show completely different and completely Ivana” he shared
Fernando also underscored his story’s characters being ‘dangerous’, and how he commends everyone in the cast for tackling them with utmost commitment.
“The danger here is them opening up to these characters.Their characters are not safe at all. They are very dangerous characters to play. Individually for all of the five actors, parang almost they’re playing against tide minsan. Paano sila tatanggapin ng tao playing those character” he said, as he noted that seeing the actors playing their roles on the series may detach them from what the audience naturally perceive them as, because of the usual roles they play both on and off the camera.
Jerome Pobocan, one of the directors of A Family Affair will showcase Masbate’s cattle-herding industry. Because of the nature of its setting, the series required its male leads to undergo physical training, to be able to deal with the demands of their roles. That is evident in the trailer, which showed the cast members participating in rodeo challenges, and riding horses.
Noting that the physical demands and other risks are necessary to make the vision behind the series work, Fernando shared that “There is no beauty without danger”.
“This (A Family Affair) is something we are proud of being part of and doing” he added, as he share that the series will be deep and not just sexy.
