Netizens were left wondering why ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime was playing backstage at an Eat Bulaga show.
GMA News anchor Mariz Umali appeared on the longest-running noontime variety show in the Philippines on July 14. She uploaded her backstage photos with the hosts Jose Manalo, Paolo Ballesteros, Maine Mendoza, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Miles Ocampo, and Maja Salvador.
In the photos, it can be seen that It’s Showtime was being played in the background. The A2Z Channel program is considered a direct competition to Eat Bulaga.
“An exceptionally wonderful afternoon with the @eatbulaga1979 dabarkads @pochoy_29 @mainedcm @allan_klownz @maja @josemanaloupdates @ryzzamaedizon_ @ryan_agoncillo @milesocampo,” Umali captioned the post.
“Thank you EB for guesting me in your #DancingKween segment. Abangan po natin mga kapuso at dabarkads and Grand Finals nito sa Sabado, July 16 na.” she added.

According to netizens, this is nothing new. In show business, competitors watch each other’s moves to adjust their segments or innovate.

It’s Showtime employees also watch Eat Bulaga, claims one viewer.
Kahit sa showtime, pag pumupunta mga hosts dun sa kainan area nila at napa-pan yung camera sa tv, eat bulaga yung pinapanuod https://t.co/R2kgnkrS9E

According to the most recent data, the GMA program has been struggling to get ratings despite It’s Showtime not being on free TV anymore.
It’s Showtime, and TV5’s “Lunch Out Loud” will no longer be airing on the same time slot, as announced recently.
“The collaboration among ABS-CBN Entertainment, Brightlight Productions, Zoe Broadcasting Network, and TV5 [will provide] Filipino viewers with more fun and entertainment and bring an extended and enjoyable midday TV viewing experience,” ABS-CBN said in a statement.
