Bela Padilla has called on the Philippine government to show more support for local television programs.
As Padilla is currently filming in South Korea, she has observed that Korean actors approach filmmaking in a more dynamic manner.
According to her, the high quality of film displayed in Korean dramas and the actors’ discipline make Filipinos love them.
Padilla tweeted, “Pinapanood ng mga Pilipino ang kdrama kasi ginagastusan at mataas ang production value ng mga palabas nila.”

Padilla expressed she’d like to see the Philippine government provide more funding for filmmaking in the country. She added that the government does not provide the same amount of funding, support, or assistance to Filipino filmmakers.
Padilla said if what she proposed comes to fruition, Filipino content would be “world-class.”
She further expressed, “Be happy for others and learn from their success. Kaya siguro tayo hindi masyadong umaasenso, pinupuna kasi natin ang mga taong masaya. Nakakahiya.”
On Friday, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) noted that having high-quality Filipino content promotes pride in the country’s film industry.
In the meantime, FDCP chairperson and CEO Tirso Cruz III told ABS-CBN News reporter Mario Dumaual, “It is high time to boost and improve the quality of our local productions by getting tangible support from our government. We need strong funding and subsidies to produce world-class content, enhanced laws that would further protect local productions, and even reinforcement of film curricula in the early stages of academic learning.“
The statement came after Sen. Jinggoy Estrada proposed banning Korean dramas to give local talents more acting roles.
