The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said it will not allow the price increase of some goods until 2023. Long story short, expect the prices of the 50 most basic goods to increase drastically.
According to DTI-CPG Undersecretary Atty. Ruth B. Castelo, “After New Year, mga early next year or early in the first quarter, saka tayo gagalaw ng presyo para rin this way nakaalalay tayo sa consumers na ang basic necessities and prime commodities di pa muna gagalaw dahil ang Noche Buena products gumalaw na.”
Castelo is optimistic that families will be able to afford traditional Christmas foods. “For a family of 4 or 5 kasya na rin. Nag-compute tayo. Kahit papaano P1,000 will be good for one family na merong Noche Buena products na ilalagay sa lamesa,” said Castelo.
ABS-CBN did the computation and confirmed what Castelo said. Two fruit shakes, spaghetti with sauce, cheese, ham, and 1/4 kg of minced meat can go for around P613. The remaining can be spent on alcohol and other beverages.
However, many families argue that P1000 just isn’t enough.
The DTI also recommended that families buy bundles and lesser-known products to save more money.
Like the consumers, netizens also didn’t agree that P1000 would suffice for Noche Buena’s necessities.
Actress Dolly de Leon has questioned the DTI’s statement, asking how the agency came up with P1000.
Pakita ng computation. https://t.co/mIiSBwhzJ0

Many thought P1000 is just absurd. Netizens want to see politicians and Castelo only spend P1000 for their Noche Buena.
THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE CALLED OUT!
NAPAKA INUTIL NYO!!! https://t.co/zsB4fbhHat

Don’t tell us to settle for 1k noche buena. It’s the government’s job to find ways to uplift the quality of lives of the citizenry. Di yung uutusan nyo kaming magtiis. Nyeta lang
