Sunshine Cruz, who had been divorced for over five years, recalled how her failing marriage taught her to cherish herself more.
Almost five years after getting her marriage with her ex-husband, Cesar Montano annulled, Sunshine Cruz happily shared that she and her daughters, Sam, Angelina, and Cheska, have been slowly reconnecting with the award-winning actor-director.
During the Surge Masquerade Ball at the Manila House, last December 6, Cruz took the chance to share that she and Montano have somewhat worked out their years-long rift. Montano has been with his new partner, Kath Angeles, with whom he has two sons and a daughter.
The actress shared, “It’s a good thing that everything’s okay na, ah maayos na lahat, nagkakasundo na. Sino ba naman ang ayaw na magkasundo sundo? So okay naman.
But perhaps, the greatest treasure that Cruz was able to find in the wake of her separation from Montano, is the ability to appreciate and love herself, fully and more.
Cruz pointed out, “After my separation, ‘yun kasi ang nakalimutan ko eh. Masyado akong na-focus sa pagmamahal sa asawa that I forgot to love myself. So, come 2013, na-realize ko na ‘ah, I should love myself if I want someone to love me also. If I want them to love me.”
After parting ways with Montano, Cruz recalled how she started doing things that she was unable to do for a very long time. This was because of her commitment to marriage. She said she’s learned to color her hair, work out, and see a dermatologist, which she thinks are reasonable for women like her in her 50s.
Cruz is presently one of the Surge lifestyle and fitness gym’s ambassadors. She mentioned that working out with her three girls, who she characterized as being more adamant about spending time together at the gym, has been one of her favorite things to do.
