Sandara Park expresses regret over leaving PH showbiz for K-pop career

She attributed this to her inclination to spend on fashion, particularly clothes and shoes, stating that she lacked a strong interest in properties or vehicles.

In a recent interview with Luis Manzano, Sandara Park opened up about her feelings of regret regarding her decision to leave the Philippine entertainment industry for a career in South Korea.

Manzano asked Park if she regretted leaving her career in the Philippines to become an idol trainee in South Korea.

In response, Sandara Park candidly shared her sentiments, saying, “That time [when I was a trainee], hindi kasi I was young and I had a dream to be a Korean star.”

The 38-year-old entertainer explained that her regret stems from the perception that her peers in the Philippine showbiz industry have earned more money than she has in her K-pop career.

She elaborated on the financial structure of the K-pop industry, where earnings are typically divided among the company and group members, which made her feel less financially prosperous compared to her counterparts in the Philippines.

Sandara Park’s statement reflects a sense of nostalgia for her earlier days in the Philippines, where she initially gained fame as a contestant on ABS-CBN’s ‘Star Circle Quest’ in 2004. She went on to enjoy a successful career in acting and singing before transitioning to K-pop.

During the interview, Park also discussed her financial habits and confessed to not having substantial savings or investments. She attributed this to her inclination to spend on fashion, particularly clothes and shoes, stating that she lacked a strong interest in properties or vehicles.

The conversation delved into her personal life briefly, with Sandara Park expressing a preference for keeping such matters private due to the enduring public scrutiny that often accompanies disclosures of relationships.

Sandara Park recently returned to the Philippines for a guest appearance at the concert of Thai K-pop singer BamBam, held at the Araneta Coliseum. Both artists are part of the same management company. Park conveyed her happiness at being back on stage and releasing her first album since 2NE1 disbanded in 2016. Her new dream includes embarking on a world tour to reconnect with her fans, emphasizing that it doesn’t need to be held in large arenas; smaller venues are equally appealing to her.

Despite her prolonged absence from the Philippine entertainment scene, Sandara Park remains touched by the continued support and remembrance of her Filipino fans. She is open to considering new projects in her home country.
