Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban became visibly emotional as she candidly discussed her ongoing battle with avascular necrosis, a condition characterized by the death of bone tissue due to insufficient blood supply.
During an episode of ‘Magandang Buhay,’ Panganiban shared that the diagnosis was confirmed through an MRI, revealing the concerning state of her hip bone.
At 37 years old, she expressed her frustration at grappling with a serious health issue just as she was in the midst of pursuing her life’s aspirations.
“Kumbaga namatay ang hip bone ko. Nawalan na siya ng blood flow, hindi niya kayang gumaling on its own. Kailangan ng tulong, like ng operation, hip replacement, mga ganyan. So nung naririnig ko ito, wait lang magte-37 pa lang ako. Tapos ngayon pa lang natutupad ang mga pangarap ko sa buhay. Sabi ko pero bakit naman medyo unfair?’ Gusto ko pang i-enjoy ang mga ibinibigay sa akin,” Panganiban recalled.
Rather than opting for immediate surgery, Panganiban sought a more conservative approach, choosing a procedure that involved the application of stem cells to the affected areas of her left and right hip.
The actress reported positive progress, noting a reduction in pain and improved functionality in her right leg. She acknowledged that full relief might take around eight weeks, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive mental outlook.
Panganiban admitted her initial fears about the impact on her role as a mother and expressed her determination to explore solutions that align with her desire for an active lifestyle.
In a vlog last month, Panganiban shared her journey towards recovery from avascular necrosis. Despite the health challenge, she remains focused on her upcoming marriage to fiancé Gregg Homan, scheduled for early next year.
