The entertainment industry is in shock as news broke that veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez, celebrated for his long and impactful career, was found injured in his residence on Sunday afternoon, prompting an investigation by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
Valdez, 76, was discovered by his driver, Angelito Oclarit, with injuries and holding a firearm.
Sources reveal that Valdez had been grappling with depression in the aftermath of his prostate cancer surgery, conducted in December 2022 at the Cardinal Santos Hospital.
The actor’s battle with mental health became evident when he was discovered in a distressed state in his New Manila home, with a firearm in his possession.
Preliminary findings from the QCPD Forensic Unit indicate the recovery of a .45-caliber Norinco pistol, an empty magazine, a fired cartridge case, and a gun case containing another empty magazine in close proximity to the actor.
Initial examinations suggest gunshot wounds on both sides of Valdez’s head, leading to speculation of a possible suicide.
QCPD Director Brigadier General Red Maranan emphasized that the incident’s classification as a suicide is pending confirmation from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) following laboratory examination results.
Ronaldo Valdez, the father of actor Janno Gibbs and actress Melissa Gibbs, had recently portrayed the role of Daniel Padilla’s grandfather in the 2022 TV series ‘2 Good 2 Be True.’
