Actress Bea Alonzo, accompanied by her legal representative Atty. Joey Garcia, has initiated legal proceedings against individuals allegedly responsible for spreading defamatory information about her.
This move comes in response to a barrage of negative reports targeting her character and reputation.
In an interview with ’24 Oras,’ Atty. Garcia conveyed Alonzo’s profound dismay over the damaging allegations leveled against her. He emphasized that Bea’s decision to pursue legal action reflects her commitment to asserting her rights and protecting her integrity.
“For the record, this is the very first time that Bea is doing this. She has been in the industry for more than 20 years, and yes, she was greatly devastated, she was affected by all these defamatory statements thrown against her,” he shared.
Despite her extensive experience in the entertainment industry spanning over two decades, this marks the first time Alonzo has taken such a step.
“She asserted her right to proceed with filing these criminal cases against the individuals responsible for making all of these damaging statements against her,” he said.
Garcia underscored the emotional toll the situation has taken on the actress, noting her hope that those responsible for disseminating false information will be held accountable for their actions.
Alonzo’s cyber libel complaints were filed with the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, addressing a range of spurious claims, including allegations of tax evasion.
In response to the legal action, media personality Ogie Diaz and veteran columnist Cristy Fermin have each addressed the matter through their respective platforms.
Diaz, in a candid Facebook Story, expressed his intention to address the case sincerely and transparently. Similarly, Fermin addressed the situation on her online program, “Cristy Ferminute,’ emphasizing that their reporting extends beyond Alonzo and denies any malicious intent behind their coverage.
Meanwhile, Alonzo has refrained from making public statements regarding the cyber libel cases. However, her proactive approach to defending her reputation underscores her commitment to upholding her rights and standing up against defamation.
