Joey de Leon issues apology to Miles Ocampo following controversial ‘Pataba’ joke on ‘Eat Bulaga’

In the midst of the controversy, Ocampo expressed her excitement for her upcoming series ‘Padyak Princess,’ where she takes on her first solo lead role.

Veteran TV host and comedian Joey de Leon has extended an apology to actress Miles Ocampo after his recent remark about her weight sparked backlash during the ‘Peraphy’ segment on the long-running noontime show ‘Eat Bulaga.’

The incident occurred when De Leon’s comment seemingly leaned towards body shaming Ocampo, prompting criticism from viewers and fans on various social media platforms.

Despite the uproar, Ocampo, accustomed to the playful banter among the hosts of ‘Eat Bulaga,’ responded calmly to the situation.

“Sa Dabarkads, bawal ang pikon du’n. Sanay lang sa mga bawat banat at hirit ng isa’t isa, so walang problema po,” Ocampo shared during the grand press conference for her upcoming daytime teleserye ‘Padyak Princess’ on TV5.

She also came to De Leon’s defense, highlighting that he was also affected by the backlash. “Actually si Boss Joey, naapektuhan din kasi nga (sabi ni Joey), ‘bakit galit ‘yung mga tao sa akin?’ Eh, segment naman po namin sa Eat Bulaga ‘yung ‘pataas, pababa.’” Ocampo explained.

According to Ocampo, De Leon personally apologized to her the following day, which she accepted graciously. She urged everyone to refrain from further criticism directed towards the veteran TV and movie icon.

“Sabi ko kay Boss Joey, ‘okay na po ‘yun, sadyang ang mga tao talaga ngayon ay makabilis makahanap ng mali, kaya napupuna agad.’ Pero sabi ko, wala pong problema,” she said.

Ocampo also addressed comments about her weight, attributing her weight gain to health issues stemming from radiation and medication following a surgery last year. She emphasized that her health condition determined her weight fluctuations.

“When someone tells me I’m fat now, my response is always, ‘Okay, I know,'” Ocampo remarked confidently.

In the midst of the controversy, Ocampo expressed her excitement for her upcoming series ‘Padyak Princess,’ where she takes on her first solo lead role. Alongside co-stars Joao Constancia and Jameson Blake, with Kira Balinger, Yayo Aguila, Gillian Vicencio, and others, Ocampo expressed gratitude to TV5 and APT Entertainment for entrusting her with such a significant project.

‘Padyak Princess’ is set to premiere on June 10, airing Monday to Friday at 11:15 a.m., preceding ‘Eat Bulaga.’
