Content creator Chloe San Jose had planned a dinner with the family of her boyfriend, Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo, but the gathering was called off due to increasing media attention.
Cynthia Carrion, president of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) and a mother figure to Yulo, disclosed this development in a recent interview.
Carrion was asked if she supported Carlos and Chloe’s relationship, to which she responded affirmatively, praising the couple’s sweetness and describing Chloe as kind-hearted.
“She’s very nice! If you get to know her, mabait siya,” Carrion said.
Carrion also revealed that Chloe had arranged a post-Olympics dinner to bring together her family and Carlos’s family. However, as media coverage surrounding their relationship intensified, Chloe decided to cancel the plans.
“But the [issue] came out. All of these things – media coming out talking [about them], it discouraged her, so they quit it. They said, ‘Let’s quit it for a while and be silent and see what happens in the end,'” Carrion explained.
When asked if Chloe had been making efforts to connect with Carlos’s family, Carrion confirmed, “Yes!” She expressed her initial excitement about the dinner plan but understood Chloe’s decision to cancel it after the situation escalated.
Carrion urged the public to allow the issue to die down, warning that continued discussion could worsen the situation. “Just let it go by so it will turn out to be the best,” she advised.
Carlos Yulo, who has previously referred to Carrion as a maternal figure during his journey to becoming a champion, has repeatedly expressed his wish to keep family matters private and instead focus on celebrating the accomplishments of Filipino athletes in the Olympics.
