Vice Ganda faces backlash over misinterpreted spliced videos

Unkabogable star Vice Ganda has found himself at the center of controversy once again due to spliced videos that have led to widespread public misunderstanding and criticism.

The latest issue began when clips from Vice’s ‘It’s Showtime’ segment were edited and shared on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter).

These spliced videos falsely suggested that Vice Ganda was making disparaging comments about the ongoing family dispute involving Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his mother, Angelica Yulo.

The edited videos created the impression that Vice was taking sides in the conflict, leading to an outpouring of anger from netizens who believed he was supporting Angelica Yulo.

The backlash intensified as accusations spread, causing Vice Ganda to clarify his position. Vice’s name also made it to the trending topics on X with more than 241 thousand posts.

In a statement on X, Vice Ganda addressed the controversy, saying, “Ha?!!! Saan galing to? Never akong nagbigay ng opinion ko tungkol sa issue ng pamilyang yan dahil mas gusto kong icelebrate ang tagumpay ni Carlos Yulo kesa makisawsaw sa eksena ng pamilya nya.”

He further explained his original comments, which were meant to discuss the general difficulty of familial estrangement and not specifically related to Yulo’s situation.

Vice emphasized that his intention was to highlight the emotional challenges of family issues in general, not to comment on any specific family dispute.

Vice also addressed the misunderstandings in a follow-up post, stating, “Yes ur right. Kaya nga may part ng episode na yan na sinabi ko din na di mo masisisi ang iba na umalis dhil un ang paraan nila para makasurvive. Un ang paraan nila para maituloy nila ang buhay nila dahil ung pananatili nila sa bahay na un ay maaari nilang ikamatay o ikasama nila.”

Despite the backlash from misleadingly edited videos, Vice Ganda remains committed to clarifying his stance and engaging with his critics.

In response to a netizen’s comment stating, “The problem kapag clips lang napapanood”, Vice Ganda acknowledged the issue, saying, “True. Though gets ko naman ung mga point nila. At tama din sila. Pero sana napanuod din nila at di nila ininvalidate ung iba ko pang sinabi sa isang buong episode.”

Further clarifying his position, Vice reposted a follow-up video, stating, “Ayan. Salamat po! I dnt think its wrong to hope for every problematic family to resolve their issues and eventually reconcile. Pero alam ko din namang may mga kaso na dapat iligtas at ilayo ang mga miyembro ng pamilya sa pangaabuso.”

Despite the criticism and harsh comments directed at him, Vice Ganda has handled the situation with grace and calmness. He has used his platform to address the misunderstanding constructively, reinforcing his dedication to celebrating achievements and addressing public issues.
