Filipino gymnastics champion Carlos Yulo has confirmed his participation in the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand.
However, his younger brother, Eldrew Yulo, won’t be eligible to compete, putting an end to speculation about a potential face-off between the two.
Carlos Yulo, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, clarified the situation during an event at Gateway Mall 2, Cubao, Quezon City, on August 31, where he received a P5 million cash gift from DigiPlus and ArenaPlus for his achievements. Yulo confirmed that he will represent the Philippines again in the senior division at the 2025 SEA Games, but Eldrew, only 16 years old, is ineligible as the minimum age requirement is 18.
Despite this, Carlos shared words of encouragement for his younger brother, who is also a promising gymnast. “Sa experience niya makukuha iyung mga pangarap niya. At may naga-guide naman sa kanya. Feeling ko, ito (Olympics) ‘yung path naming dalawa. Magpakatatag lang siya. Just go for it. Mag-enjoy lang siya,” Carlos said.
As Carlos prepares for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, he revealed plans to train in the United Kingdom to further hone his skills. “Gusto ko pong makakuha ng techniques nila, and syempre makapag-share din po ng knowledge sa kanila,” he said.
Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) President Cynthia Carrion outlined ambitious plans to form a team of Filipino gymnasts for the 2028 Olympics, with Carlos leading the group. “We want to go to LA in 2028 with a team and (Carlos) will be leading a team. Of course, a team is composed of four athletes and one reserve, and we really must train the other three so we can win as a team,” Carrion said.

Carrion added that Carlos is focused on winning the all-around gold medal, which requires competing in six apparatus. “He’ll be training very hard, and I just pray he doesn’t get injured because once you get injured it’s very difficult. That’s our prayer, that he doesn’t get injured,” she added. Carrion also noted plans to send Carlos to various training camps in England, Korea, and Japan to further develop his skills.
During the event, DigiPlus announced the renewal of Carlos Yulo’s contract with ArenaPlus, reaffirming their support for his future endeavors. “Carlos’ success is a powerful reminder that with dedication, hard work, and the right support, Filipinos can achieve greatness. At DigiPlus, we are deeply committed to empowering not just Carlos, but other aspiring athletes who strive to make their dreams a reality,” said Chairman Tanco.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, where Yulo interacted with fans and shared more insights into his preparations for upcoming competitions.
