The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMar) achieved a 100-percent passing rate for first-time takers in the November 2024 Nursing Licensure Examination, underscoring its dedication to providing quality education to Marikina City students.
The 67 first-time takers and eight other passers were recognized during the flag ceremony at Marikina City Hall.
During the event, Marikina 1st District Rep. Maan Teodoro praised the passers for bringing honor to the city and showcasing PLMar’s exceptional quality of education.
“Proud na proud kami ni Mayor Marcy dahil sa achievements ng ating PLMAR sa nakalipas na nursing licensure exams. Patunay lang ito ng de-kalidad na edukasyon na ibinibigay ng ating unibersidad sa ating mga estudyante,” the lawmaker said.
”Kasama sa pagkilalang ito ay ang handog ng lungsod na cash gifts para masuklian ang kanilang kahusayan,” she added.
Teodoro reiterated her continued support for PLMar, enabling it to further enhance the quality of education it provides for Marikina residents.
”Maaasahan niyo ang buong suporta ko at ni Mayor Marcy Teodoro para i-level-up pa ang alaga sa edukasyon para sa Marikina,” she emphasized.
Marikina City recently received several accolades, including the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for the second straight year and the 2024 Kaagapay sa Kalusugan at Kapaligiran for Sewer Coverage Award from the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO).
Under the leadership of Mayor Marcy Teodoro and with the support of Rep. Teodoro, the local government recently initiated the dredging of the Marikina River as a major project.
The move resulted in the significant reduction of severe flooding incidents during typhoons and heavy rains as it expanded the river’s width from 50 meters to almost 100 meters, increasing its water-carrying capacity and effectively preventing overflow and flooding.
The local government unit also purchased its amphibious long-arm backhoe to improve the efficiency of the project.
Residents observed that the initiative has effectively reduced flooding, as floodwaters now quickly recede into the river in previous typhoons.
“Sobrang nagpapasalamat po kami sa Panginoon, at tsaka kay Ma’am Maan (Teodoro) at kay Mayor dahil nagawan po ng paraan,” said Joan Rebenito, a resident of Barangay Barangka.
Judy Queno, a long-time resident of Barangay Tumana, welcomed the positive development since she had grown accustomed to severe flooding during her more than 30 years in the area.
“Hindi na umakyat. Wala na, wala nang tubig. Napaka-epektibo talaga. Ngayon lang namin ito narasanan. Isipin mo iyon,” she said.
Evelyn Soldevilla, another Tumana resident, said the family now feels safer after years of adapting to floods that had previously destroyed their house and furniture.
”Nararamdaman namin na safe na kami dito sa lugar namin. Kung noong araw, kami yung unang-unang binabaha dito. Ngayon, kami na ngayon yung hindi nababaha,” she said.
