Volunteer community artists and supporters spearheaded a “National Mural Day” in Quezon City, jumpstarting mural painting initiatives in various parts of the country in support of former Senators and independent senatorial candidates Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan.
Bam and Kiko took part in a mural painting in Brgy. Krus na Ligas, while similar activities are expected to start in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Quezon City, Cebu, Capiz, CARAGA, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and Batangas, among others.
“Maganda na mas maraming tao ang nakakakita at nakakaalam. This is a great way for artists as well na ilabas sa lansangan ang kanilang panawagan,” community artist John Benedict Medalla said in an interview.
“Nagpapasalamat po kami sa mga volunteer na nagsimula ng National Mural Day para kay Senator Kiko at sa akin,” Bam said.
“Mahalaga po talaga siya kasi kami naman po, wala naman kaming bilyon at wala kami sa administrasyon. Ang meron tayo, mga volunteer at mga kababayan natin na nagnanais na makakita ng lingkod bayan na handang maglingkod at tututok talaga sa mga problema ng bayan,” Bam added.
Murals were a common sight during the 2022 campaign of former Vice President Leni Robredo and Pangilinan as volunteers found creative ways to express support for their candidacies.
In her speech during the People’s Campaign Kick-Off Rally at the Dasmariñas City Arena in Cavite, Robredo expressed gratitude to her supporters for creating colorful murals in 2022.
“Ito na siguro iyong kampanya na napakaraming murals at nakakatuwa,” Leni said, adding that she still takes photos of these murals every time she finds one.
“Talagang hinihintuan ko pa rin at pinipicturan ko kasi alam mo na labor of love talaga iyon para sa bayan,” she added.
