Groom allegedly ‘bewitched’ by bride in CDO, regains clarity after being sprinkled with salt

As the CDO wedding scandal continues to gain traction, many are waiting to see whether the groom will come forward with his side of the story and if justice will be served for those affected.

A bizarre wedding controversy has gone viral on social media after claims surfaced that a groom in Cagayan de Oro (CDO) was bewitched by his bride-to-be, only to regain clarity after being sprinkled with salt by a friend.

The alleged incident, which took place on March 11, has left netizens in shock, with wedding organizers and suppliers coming forward on TikTok to share how they were scammed by the bride, just like the groom.

According to the wedding organizers, everything was set for a lavish ceremony, complete with an elegant venue and grand preparations. However, no guests—neither from the bride’s nor the groom’s side—showed up on the day of the wedding.

One of the wedding coordinators detailed the strange turn of events, saying the groom only snapped out of his confused state after his friend suddenly sprinkled salt on him.

“Bigla nga raw natauhan ang lalaki at naguluhan kung nasaan siya at kung ano ang ginagawa niya sa lugar kung saan dapat silang magpapakasal.”

Reports suggest that upon regaining his senses, the groom appeared disoriented, seemingly unaware of how he ended up at the venue.

Aside from the mysterious circumstances surrounding the groom, the bride is also being accused of scamming wedding organizers and suppliers, who claimed they were never paid for their services.

The total cost of unpaid expenses allegedly amounted to around ₱500,000, covering catering, makeup, venue decorations, and other wedding essentials.

“Pati pagkain, make-up, everything—around 500k ang ginastos sa coordinator or even more, pero wala kahit isang piso na na-downpayment si bride,” one of the affected organizers revealed.

The bride allegedly introduced herself as having influential political connections, which led vendors to believe that payment delays would not be an issue. However, suspicions arose when no family members or guests arrived for the wedding.

According to 102.5 Brigada News FM CDO, the Cogon Police Station has already taken the bride into custody and she may soon face estafa (fraud) charges due to complaints from scammed wedding suppliers.

Police Major Sabino Labitad confirmed that a settlement agreement was reached, requiring the bride to pay the wedding organizers within 10 days.

Despite the controversy, the groom has yet to make an official statement or file a formal complaint against the bride.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with netizens questioning whether the bewitchment (gayuma) claims hold any truth or if the groom was simply manipulated through other means.

While many remain skeptical, others believe that superstitions surrounding love potions still persist in some areas of the country. Regardless of the supernatural claims, legal action is now being pursued to address the financial fraud allegedly committed by the bride.
