Piers Morgan has nothing but praise for Filipino health workers in the UK

Immigration will always a remain an issue worldwide. Some nations would argue that immigrants are bad because they would take jobs away from locals.

Piers Morgan, on Good Morning Britain, acknowledged that immigrants are making a huge difference in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Immigrant health workers are helping the NHS (National Health Service), which is currently the second largest single-paying healthcare system in the world.

“We forget about this extraordinary workforce that comes from all around the world to help the NHS.”

Filipinos make up a good number of health workers assisting in the cause of the NHS, and Morgan acknowledged that.

“Amazing number of Filipinos working at NHS, and unsung heroes.”

One Filipino health worker is serving in a hospital where UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently admitted after contracting COVID-19. Morgan just wanted to commend these immigrants for their hard work.

“I just wanna give them a shoutout for helping everybody right now. Just outstanding care.

“It’s worth bearing in mind when we talk about immigrants in this country, these are the immigrants currently saving people’s lives. Coming here and actually enriching our country and doing an amazing job.”

Morgan thanked Filipinos and other nationalities who are helping the UK. He just recently found out that Filipinos make up most of the immigrant health workers in the country.

“Thank you to all the Filipinos who are here doing all this amazing work, and to every other immigrant working at NHS currently.”

He hopes that this will make people change their negative stance on immigration in an overall aspect.

“I hope at the end of this, we’ll have a different feeling about what immigration has done for this country.”

Philippine Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo also praised the 21,000 Filipino frontliners in the UK that are working for the NHS and various private hospitals. There are around 200,000 Filipinos currently residing in the UK.

There are 17 Filipinos in the U.K. and Ireland who have contracted COVID-19, according to Lagdameo. There are 33 Filipinos considered as persons under investigation, among them are health workers.
