Veteran columnist and talent manager Lolit Solis felt lucky she is alive to witness two significant historical events in this lifetime.
In her Instagram account, Solis said Filipinos were fortunate to have experienced the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and witnessed the shutting down of the Kapamilya network.
“We are so lucky Salve. Na-experience natin ang pandemic ng COVID-19, at now, nakita natin ang pagpapa-shutdown ng isa sa pinakamalaking network, ang ABS-CBN,” the 73-year-old veteran writer noted.
“Mga bagay na never natin aakalain na makikita sa ating lifetime,” she added.
Solis said she considered the shutdown and the pandemic as blessings since it would impart many life lessons to Pinoys, especially to the kids.
“Hindi ba napakalaking blessing nito sa atin. One lesson in life we will never see again. God was so good dahil sa 2 pangyayaring ito, ang laking aral sa buhay ang nakita natin, ang napag-aralan,” she noted.
“If you think about it Salve as a mother, ang dami mong maibibigay na lessons kay Aries. Ang dami mong lessons na maituturo sa kanya sa nakita mong life lesson ng 2 pangyayari unfolding in our eyes,” she went on.
“The power play, the frantic reactions sa naganap na pagkalat ng virus, the nightmares it brought sa buhay natin. It will be a a strong foundation for your kid growing up. Bongga talaga ang year of the rats, 2020, walang hintong pasabog,” she added.

But Solis’ opinion did not sit well with many netizens.
Here’s what some netizens had to say:
“Ang insensitive po ng post n’yo Lola, considering yourself lucky to witness such event, knowing na maraming mawawalan ng trabaho. Think first before you post.” – Antuken12
“Wow kung blessing po sa inyo ang COVID, labas po kayo sa bahay n’yo. Saluhin n’yo lahat ng virus. Dali para marami ka pang blessings. Nabonggahan ka pa sa pangyayari. Basta maka-post lang.” – Mysonismiel
“Sana magka-COVID ka. Siguro blessing din ‘yun. Tama?” – Trebojfrilles
“Iba talaga ugali mo. Masaya ka pa sa pag-bagsak ng kumpanya na maraming nakikinabang. Sobra kang selfish.” – Isangconday
“Shock ako to read your post. The nerve to say na you are very lucky. Where is your compassion to others? Nasa talampakan siguro.” – Anongseymo
“Ang hard mo naman. Kinakatuwa mo pa ‘yung pagbagsak ng isang network na maraming natutulungan.” – Senamenchu
Defending herself, Solis said in another Instagram post that she’s not insensitive to others’ feelings.
She explained that she just felt lucky “to be a part of history” that brought a lot of significant life lessons.
“I really feel lucky to be a part of history. Nakakahinayang nga na matanda na ako ng maganap ang mga ito na magiging foundation sana ng utak at puso ko sa maraming aral na binigay nito. Iyon malaman mo na nothing is indispensable, nothing is permanent, na in one click of a finger puwede mawala lahat,” she noted.
“Hindi ba napaka-gandang aral sa buhay na binigay sa atin ni God? At nakatakda talaga mangyari ito, walang makakapigil. So how can you accused me of being insensitive? Be sensitive enough na intindihin muna ang ibig sabihin ng tao bago mag-comment na para bang kayo lang ang tama,” she added.

ABS-CBN has signed off Tuesday night in compliance with the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) order.
A day after its 25-year license to operate expired on May 4, the NTC directed the network to immediately halt its TV and radio operations nationwide.
ABS-CBN was given 10 days to respond and convince the agency to revoke the order.
