Senate Resolution No. 395 was finally passed on Monday which seeks to have the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) reconsider their cease and desist order against ABS-CBN and its affiliates.
Pia Cayetano was one of the senators who originally signed the resolution but surprised the Filipino people when she abstained and withdrew her signature. She said she’d rather “refrain from making comments” while the complaint is pending in the High Court.
Just a few days ago Pia tweeted screenshots of the resolution and had a proud vibe to her post.
Today, I joined several of my colleagues in filing a resolution expressing the sense of @senatePH urging NTC to reconsider its cease & desist order against ABS-CBN Corp. and its subsidiaries & affiliates, and to allow their operation pending the renewal of their franchise. pic.twitter.com/yhEldyDcWu

This is a reiteration of the earlier reso we filed (SRN 344) dated March 4, 2020, authorizing NTC to issue a provisional authority for ABS-CBN to continue operations until Congress decides on their franchise bills. pic.twitter.com/GsNyg8lA7s

She even defended her younger brother Alan from criticisms regarding the media giant’s franchise renewal.
It should be recalled that on Feb.26, @HouseofRepsPH Speaker @alanpcayetano and Legislative Franchises Chair Franz Alvarez even wrote a letter enjoining NTC to grant ABS-CBN a provisional authority to operate effective May 4, 2020 until Congress decides on its franchise renewal. pic.twitter.com/qZnj1QyMGv

Alan’s fellow congressmen attributed the shutdown to his lack of leadership and his incompetence.
Buhay Representative Lito Atienza and Albay 1st District Representative Edcel Lagman both said that Alan should stop blaming the NTC for the shutdown when he just sat on the matter for a great amount of time.
“I would like to apologize for the failure of Congress to do its job. Kasalanan namin ito eh. Kasalanan ng Kongreso ito. But more important, I’d like to say, squarely, kasalanan ni Speaker Cayetano ito. Pagkukulang niya ito sa bayan,” Atienza told ANC’s Headstart on Wednesday, May 6.
“He will have a lot to explain one day. It may not be today, but later on, this issue will hound him because he was the one who did not do his job. Even the President kept on reminding him to do your job, magtrabaho kayo, aksyunan ‘nyo ‘yan (work on it, act on it already). What did we do? Nothing,” Atienza added.
“The National Telecommunication Commission must not be used as the scapegoat for the patent failure of the leadership of the House of Representatives to resolutely push for the seasonable renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise,” Lagman said.
“The National Telecommunication Commission must not be used as the scapegoat for the patent failure of the leadership of the House of Representatives to resolutely push for the seasonable renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise,”
“I have repeatedly warned that Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s proffered solution for NTC to grant ABS-CBN a provisional authority to operate, despite the lapse of its franchise, is against the law and jurisprudence,” he added.
The franchise renewal badly needs Pia’s vote, but all the public can say know is ‘oh well’.

Ano bang maeexpect natin kay Sotto? Even Pia Cayetano and Bong Revilla abstained? Si Pia maintindihan ko pa kasi kapatid yan ng walang kakwentang speaker na si Allan. Nabulungan na yan. Pero si Bong who has friends who work in ABS and nasa entertainment industry?? Pag tuta tlga.

One netizens points out Pia’s false stance on certain social issues just to get the public to vote for her.

It could be argued that the only reason they are in office is because of their late father benefiting from ABS-CBN, which eventually put the spotlight on Pia and her siblings.
Those Cayetanos wouldn't have won if their father didn't earn fame through ABS-CBN. However, it's not right to demand gratitude from politicians. WHAT WE NEED FROM THEM IS TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT! NOT ACTING ON THE FRANCHISE RENEWAL IS NOT RIGHT!
