Kevin Manalo, Pia Magalona, DJ Jhaiho, and other ABS-CBN personalities react to Harry Roque’s insensitive joke

He teased Willie Revillame saying that the latter must have had something to do with the franchise as it is the first time that his show was the only one on-air at that moment.

During his May 28 Wowowin guesting, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque joked about the ABS-CBN shutdown with host Willie Revillame.

He teased the latter about having something to do with the shutdown in order to dominate the airwaves.

“Sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon, ikaw lang ang napapanood sa buong bansa. Alam mo, duda ko, kaya ‘yung isa nawalan ng prangkisa, ikaw may kagagawan niyan e. Oh, aminin, aminin,” Roque teased the host.

But instead of going along with the joke, Revillame defended ABS-CBN and showed support as it was where he started his career.

“Malaki din po ang utang na loob ko sa istasyon na yan. Do’n ako nagsimula, do’n ako nakilala, nasa puso ko pa rin ‘yan. Kapamilya, Kapatid, Kapuso, bawat Pilipino. Kaya Sec, wag mo akong idamay. Baka ma-bash po ako. Nanahimik po ako.”

The host later added that they are not there to talk about the franchise but the matters regarding the future of Filipinos who are currently suffering because of COVID-19.

“Wag na nating pag-usapan ‘yan. Hindi natin paguusapan ang kahit ano mang prangkisa. Ang paguusapan natin dito ay ‘yong ating hinaharap na kinabukasan.”

ABS-CBN personalities called out Roque’s “joke” as distasteful and unnecessary. DJ Jhaiho called the spokesperson “insensitive”.

Kevin Manalo also stated his opinion regarding the matter.

“I couldn’t believe what I’m watching…a palace spokesman joking about the franchise!? At the expense of thousands of employees!? Sir, by extension you represent the president’s mouth. yan din ba opinyon ni Duterte sa ABS-CBN?”

“Kung ang hangarin ng isang kongresista ay ipasara ang ABS-CBN, sinasalamin ba niya ang saloobin ng mga kadistrito niya, o ang saloobin ng ‘neutral’ na Poon,” Tony Velasquez said in a tweet.

Pia Magalona was also horrified about the way Roque casually joked about the network’s franchise.

Netizens also tweeted about the spokesperson’s joke, calling him out for allegedly romanticizing serious matters.

ABS-CBN has been off-air since May 5 and has been suffering a Php30-35 million revenue loss since its shut down.
