Real employees speak up about ‘the truth’ on ABS-CBN

Marcoleta claims that ABS-CBN employees do not receive benefits required by the law

ABS-CBN employees enumerated the benefits they get from the network in response to Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta’s false claim that they don’t receive any.

On May 26, during the House committee joint hearing, Marcoleta accused ABS-CBN of unfair labor practices that deny its employees the benefits mandated by the law.

The employees of the station contradicted Marcoleta’s claim and say they receive various benefits from ABS-CBN.

Twitter user @alracajaj said in a tweet that she has been a contractual employee of the network for a long time.

Even before when she was a contractual employee, she had benefits and bonuses from the company.

“Kahit contractual ako, (may) sss, philhealth, pag-ibig, insurance. May masarap isaing na bigas every other month, isang sako, besh. Kung di mo kaya iuwi, pwedeng i-convert to cash. May maxicare ako, pati dependent ko.” she said.

She also shared her experience on how ABS-CBN treats them like a family.

The employee said that the station sent help when they were hit by Habagat in 2012.

“Noong 2012 Habagat, nasalanta kami. Hanggang leeg ang tubing. nagpadala ng rubber boat sa tulong ni  @jacquemanabat kasi kailangang dalhin sa hospital ang anak ko na 3mos lang that time. umabot ng 39.9 ang lagnat. Baha sa amin.” she said.

“Pagpasok ko sa office after ng Habagat, kahit hindi ako nag-apply for calamity assistance, kusa akong binigyan ng company. Ipinarepair ko ang bahay namin. Nangyari lahat ng ito, hindi pa ako regular.” she added.

Now that she is already a regular employee, she receives more benefits.

“May educational allowance, optical allowance, monthly 1 sack of rice na masarap. Maxicare. Insurance. Etc. Ang dami naming benefits.” the twitter user also said.

ABS-CBN also assisted her when she met an accident on her way to work and gave financial assistance when her ex-boyfriend’s father was hospitalized.

While these are not benefits, they show how compassionate the network is.

She ended her thread by saying that as a child who has grown up without parents, ABS-CBN has become her family. She also reiterated that they are not asking for pity, instead, they are just saying the truth.

Another twitter user, @scorsaguin, also contradicted Marcoleta and said that he receives benefits even though he is contractual.

Katrina Domingo, a journalist of ABS-CBN also speaks up about other benefits they receive as workers of the station.

ABS-CBN’s franchise expired on May 4, and until now their application for renewal is still pending.
