Caviteños embarrassed by Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla and his recent actions

What he did was in fact a violation of the law.

Caviteños have expressed that they are embarrassed by Rep. Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla after the lawmaker disrespected the national anthem.

During a hearing on ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, Remulla was seen taking down notes while the National Anthem was playing.

What he did was in fact a violation of the law.

The Republic Act 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, states, “Reverence and respect shall at all times be accorded the flag, the anthem, and other national symbols which embody the national ideals and traditions and which express the principles of sovereignty and national solidarity.”

Section 38 also mandated that a Filipino must salute to the flag while the national anthem is being played.

Section 50 also stated that any person who violates it shall pay a fine amounting to 50,000 or by imprisonment of not more than one year. In the case that the violation is committed by a juridical person, ” its President or Chief Executive Officer thereof shall be liable.”

Remulla has since apologized on Wednesday saying: “I’d like to apologize for an earlier incident na ako po’y may sinusuluat na note nung nagf-flag ceremony tayo.

“As usual, the ABS-CBN people are the ones playing it up now on social media. But I will forgive them.

“Ang sa akin ho, I wrote the note—hindi ko ho excuse ‘to—because something went into my mind for the questions I will ask tonight… Ako’y humihingi ng dispensa sa ating mga kababayan.”

Netizens also blasted him for being one of the prominent lawmakers who are clearly opposed to giving ABS-CBN a new franchise.

He has also been called ‘rude’ and ‘disrespectful’ for his actions during past hearings.

At a previous hearing, he cut off ABS-CBN legal counsel Atty. Cynthia Del Castillo, garnering him the unflattering nickname “King of Disrespectful”. Interrupting people is a habit of his, but his tone towards Del Castillo was more aggressive than usual.

Supporters of the network said that Del Castillo did not deserve that kind of treatment from Remulla.
