In a virtual townhall meeting last July 15, ABS-CBN executives informed their employees that the company will be shutting down some of its businesses and laying off some of the staff by August 31, 2020.
Various groups will be talking to their teams about their fates.
ABS-CBN is losing around ₱30 to ₱35 million a day just by being off the air.
“We continue to lose a substantial amount of money every month and I’m afraid that if we cannot get back on air soon, by August, we may already have to consider beginning a retrenchment process,” ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak said during a hearing before the Senate.
The Committee on Legislative Franchises denied ABS-CBN’S application for a congressional franchise on July 10.
Many were dismayed with Congress’ decision to shut down the Kapamilya network.

I’m witnessing live through social media people losing their jobs and livelihood in Abs cbn and I just can’t believe it sometimes. How can anyone celebrate or be happy about people suffering. Most especially now during a pandemic.

Pagpupugay sa mga kasamahan sa ABS-CBN Regional!
No other network has given this much priority to the regions with as many as around 20 regional TV Patrol newscasts at one point to 12 just before the shutdown.

Regine Velasquez tweeted July 14 that she’s also worried about what the future holds.
“Bakit ganito??? Sana panaginip lang lahat ng ito.”
