In 2016, Cameron Mackintosh’s musical production of “Les Miserables” will be touring the countries in Asia. Based from Victor Hugo’s French novel, Les Miserables is still making new box office records. Now on its 30th year, the legendary musical production will now be experienced by people in Asia.
The global theater sensation has already been watched by over 70 million people all over the world. It has been shown in 43 countries and have already been translated in 22 languages. However, since it has been on stage since 1980, the legendary musical has never premiered in the Philippines.
Les Miserables has already been brought to Korea and Japan and is now being staged in Perth and will be brought to Sydney, Australia as well this year. As for the official schedule on its tour in Asia, Les Miserables’ official website does not have details yet.
Is there a great chance to bring Les Miserables in the Philippines?
Inspired by the Facebook page, Petition to bring Wicked in Manila, a Facebook account named Petition to bring Les Miserables in Manila was created last year. The website which features facts and updates of the said musical, currently has over 1,000 petitioners and counting.
According to an article from Broadway World, the Ozian musical show Wicked was brought to Manila with the influence of the Petition to bring Wicked in Manila Facebook page which had 700 petitioners before the musical was brought to the Philippines. Will the Petition to bring Les Miserables in Manila bring the same result? That, we will have to find out.
Currently, there are no updates yet if the musical will be shown in the Philippines. Will it finally land in Manila next year? We’ll just have to wait and see.
