Schools and companies have already started, yet social networking websites still have hangovers with the past holiday-getaways and celebration.
As you prep up with your uniforms or office attires, do you think about how you want to start your year for the first few months? Is it the same as last year? Do you intend to start clean which may take you to a new, different path?
Here are ways to suggest and be reminded of how we could begin with our year anew.
- Lose weight and get fit
We have the longest celebration for the Christmas season thus, we enjoyed all kinds of food; and various drinks were tried by going out with friends, family or even just attending Christmas/year ending parties here and there. Since everything is now back to normal and so should our figure! Why not bring the sexy back for the summer season? H-ll yeah!
We don’t have to hit the gym to exercise. There are parks and sport centers where people run, walk or simply join the Zumba dance classes, all for free. We can also carry heavy water bottles, redecorate or do general cleaning at home as a form of work out. We would just want to take all the cholesterol out our system from the holidays and be healthy. The good news is recently a lot of people are now beginning to fulfill one of their new year’s resolutions because digital weighing scales at some malls are running out which is a very good sign.
- How about pursuing a love life?
Are you a member of “samahan ng malamig ang pasko” or cold holidays’ night? For sure, we are aware that Valentine’s Day is coming next. We should not hurry ourselves for the upcoming event but this could be the year to start meeting new people that might find us love or at least new friends. Are you a firm believer of Chinese luck? Well, it is said that generally, this is a good year for romance and passion.
- Start your career right
“Back to work!” did you sigh while saying those words? Haven’t had enough? If we feel exhausted even before starting to work again, we should think twice if we don’t want to go on with same events as last year. If not now, when? If not us, who? As questions might prolong because of ifs and buts, we should not wait any longer to start with the career that we really want. As we often hear, we should not live to work but we work to live.
- Get a new interest or hobby
Summer season is around the corner so how about learning how to swim? Instead of buying the latest gadgets or clothes, why not invest in ourselves that we know will last long. If we are not the sporty type or musician-wannabe, we can go back to the basics like painting, sketching, reading, writing, cooking or back in the days where we played with blocks (Lego), puzzles or we can do the walang basagan ng trip (doing whatever we like) kind like a scrapbook full selfies.
- Attend Pope Francis’ visit in the Philippines
What is the best way to start the year other than getting a blessing from Pope Francis himself in January? None. We have had natural disasters like typhoons and earthquakes for the past few years where a lot of people experienced a hard time recovering and getting back on their feet from the things or the ones they have lost. Pope will come to show His “mercy and compassion” as the main theme of his visit to lighten our hearts through his words and presence. Pope is expected to come on January 15 – 19, 2015.
- Save money for your bucket list
Even with the left and right sale at shopping malls, we should just close our eyes and picture great adventures ahead. Focusing on buying only the necessities will help us save more for our soul searching travels or wild ride trips. We can try using percentage to have fixed amount of savings. Some people do fifty-fifty to allot the half for their savings while others use the twenty-ten-seventy wherein twenty percent is used for food, ten for personal needs and seventy for the bucket list or/and savings. We can also have a separate bank account purely for savings which is as much as possible off-limits to other than what we have saved for.
- Reinvent yourself
Aside from the yearly haircut to brush off the year that passed, we can also play with a new wardrobe without actually throwing the old ones. We can just mix and match what we normally wear or swap some clothes with our friends to have new ones. Love plain clothes? Why not try printed clothes? Or be a dressy-type kind of person, instead of jeans; blouses and not T-shirts. A fresh new you, It’s up to you. Personality development is also a good idea!
- Positive vibes
How do you get energized? It’s like turning up the music before cleaning the house. Putting life in boring household chores could get interesting with your fave songs playing. We can get motivated by doing a “pre-activity” before the actual activity whether be at work, school or home. Watch a heartwarming movie, run, read a book, news, magazine, be inspired with quotations, listen to more music, run, “eat, pray, love” meet friends, shop, maybe the color yellow? play video games, soccer, basketball, draw, run, cook, work out, study or … run? Name it and you are imbibing positivity.
- Move on, period!
How are you going to begin if you can’t let go of what tied you down to the past year. A failed relationship, project, exam or an unforgivable mistake; unless you can turn back time, sadly we can’t do anything about it. Look at the brighter side, some people have moved on so we can, too! It is easier said than done but in order to go forward we should not look back or not be afraid committing the same mistake again. We learned our lessons. YOLO! so enjoy, live, love, laugh!
- Start with whatever you listed on your new year’s resolution
You are the only one who knows what is best for you. This is only to remind you in case you forget the list you might throw in the sea. You already know what you should change for yourself but action is the one that should be done. Don’t make it sudden because we cannot take something out such as overeating or too much partying in our lives overnight. We go slow but surely.
Happy New Year!
