A former ABS-CBN employee blasted broadcaster Noli de Castro for calling out Kapamilya employees who have recently left the company.
Willy Cuevas, the creative director of game shows Minute To Win It and Banana Sundae said that de Castro’s remark was insensitive because the employees never wanted to leave.
“Noli de Castro, gusto din naming maging Kapamilya Forever kaso ikaw na lang ang sumusuweldo, e. Be sensitive naman,” Cuevas said.
De Castro recently said that he will not be leaving the company during his radio show, then took a shot at those who did leave.
“Hay naku! Totoo ang sinasabi ko, kaya Kapamilya forever. Yung iba, e, nagsasabi (Kapamilya forever), hindi naman pala forever. Wala naman forever kasi,” he said.
He pointed out that he has been with ABS-CBN for how many years.
“Nagsimula ako dito nang magsimula ang ABS-CBN after ng martial law. Oh, martial law na naman at nandito pa rin ako. Ay, hindi pala. Ipinasara na kami. Nandito pa kami, another martial law,” he said.
Willy defended the former employees saying that they only left because their contracts had expired.
“Para kasing nagpaparinig siya sa lumilipat, e, kaya lang naman lumipat ang mga yun kasi na-terminate na ang kontrata nila,” Cuevas told Cabinet Files.
“Ano pang gagawin nila doon kung wala na silang pagkukunan ng ikabubuhay? I think kaya niya lang nasasabi yun dahil may suweldo pa siya at hindi pa terminated ang kontrata niya,” he added.
He then compared De Castro to a mascot.
“Kumbaga, mascot na siya ng kompanya. Wala namang kompanya ang magbebenta ng mascot kahit ma-bankrupt at wala rin bibili. Kumbaga, aanhin naman ng Jollibee si Ronald McDonald? Konting sensitivity lang ang hinihingi namin sa kanya kasi masakit pa ang sugat. Kumbaga, sariwa pa. Pwede naman kaming tawaging Kapamilya Forever kahit wala kami sa ABS-CBN,” he said.
Cuevas has also been with ABS-CBN for many years, but was part of the nearly 5,000 employees who got retrenched due to the downsizing of operations.
His career started with the ABS-CBN gag show Goin’ Bananas in 1987. He also worked with TV5’s Tropang Trumpo and GMA-7’s Bubble Gang. He wrote the story of Pera O Bayong Not Da TV and directed the comedy series Tarajing Potpot. Kris Aquino’s Game Ka Na Ba? was one of his original concepts Cuevas also contributed to Family Feud, Deal or No Deal, and 1 vs 100.
