LOOK: Chelsea Peretti denies ever praising Pres. Rodrigo Duterte

Fact-checking organization VERA Files said the image was a form of disinformation.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (B99) star Chelsea Peretti has confirmed in a tweet that she never claimed that President Rodrigo Duterte “is one of the best politicians” she has ever met.

One Jennifer Colas Azcarrate shared the picture of the actress with the quote and labeled her Senator Gina Linetti of the Republic of Italy.

The character Peretti plays on the show is named Gina Linetti and is obviously not an Italian senator.

Fact-checking organization VERA Files said the image was a form of disinformation.

“Linetti is not a member of the Senate of the Italian Republic. She is a civilian administrator in the hit American police comedy show ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ played by American actress and comedian Chelsea Peretti,” VERA Files reported.

VERA Files added that the photo was uploaded last September 11 and has been shared with various Facebook groups.

This isn’t the only fake graphic about praises for Duterte.

Last April, a graphic showing Queen Elizabeth II praising the Philippine president was also tagged as fake.

“Pres. Duterte is the kind of leader who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Filipinos are very fortunate to have him. Seriously, he looked so overworked. He may not be perfect, but he truly loves his country. Philippines doesn’t have the worst government. It actually has the worst citizens,” the graphic said with the queen’s photo.

She addressed the United Kindom on April 6 regarding COVID-19 but never really mentioned Duterte’s name.

The quote card was taken from INQUIRER.net with the original quote of “This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal… We will succeed – and that success will belong to every one of us.”

It has been observed time and again that the Duterte administration relies on fake news to make the president and his allies look good to the public.
