A taxi driver who was actually a soldier by day gave Poy Yumping, a disabled person, a free ride – something that the young man was so grateful for that he posted the story on Facebook, reports When in Manila.
According to Poy’s account, he who was waiting for a cab with his mother at 5:00 AM when the taxi approached. They were in Taguig and headed for the Philippine Orthopedic Center.
Instead of letting them ride as regular passengers, the taxi driver told them he is giving them a free ride because he won’t be able to bring them to their destination as he was already at the end of his shift. However, he was willing to bring them for free to where he would be stopping – which will be closer to the Philippine Orthopedic Center.
While in the cab, they learned that the taxi driver was no ordinary driver because he was also a soldier by day. He drives a cab at night to make ends meet and to support his family. Aside from having his own 4 kids, three of whom are in college and one in high school, he also has an adopted daughter to support.
Poy revealed the cab plate as UVA-164 Conqueror and was only able to identify the driver’s name as Mr. Elnar. At the end of the ride, though they still tried to give the man their fare, the soldier refused to accept it.
It is a story that certainty restored our faith in humanity. Netizens tired of hearing horror stories about taxi drivers are hoping they could meet Mr. Elnar or people who are like him.
It’s not about the free fare but the honesty and integrity this man exhibited. Of course, it is also helped that he gave the free ride to a disabled person. We’re hoping all taxi drivers will be as good and kind as Mr. Elnar is.
