- The MMFF Committee has announced that the festival will still push through this year.
- But instead of showing the movies in theaters nationwide, it will be available online.
The COVID-19 pandemic won’t top the Philippines’ local filmmakers and movie enthusiasts from celebrating a very important annual event.
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is set to happen online as announced by committee spokesperson Noel Ferrer.
On his Facebook post, he said that MMFF has partnered with a “worldwide streaming service” to bring this year’s entries to Filipinos’ computers and phone screens in and out of the country.
“Dahil sa online distribution, mas maraming Pilipino ang makakapanood ng mga pelikula. Pero isang major na kunsiderasyon ang pag-iwas sa piracy na natugunan naman ng magiging partner ng MMFF at i-aannounce sa mga darating na araw!” Ferrer wrote.
He also said that the festival has taken filmmakers’ situation into consideration and moved its deadline to finish film submissions from October 15 to November 15.
On the other hand, finished films based on approved scripts can still submit until November 30, instead of the previous deadline of October 31.
“This will give producers and filmmakers more time na puliduhin pa ang kanilang mga entries.”
Some of the announced entries include ‘Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan’, ‘Magikland’, ‘The Super Praybeyt Benjamin’, and ‘The Exorcism of My Siszums’.
MMFF traditionally starts on December 25.
