President Rodrigo Duterte is once again under fire for making a misogynistic comment after being questioned if his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will run for the 2022 Presidential elections.
He stated that his daughter is aware of his opposition to the idea of her succeeding him in the Presidential seat.
“My daughter, inuudyok naman nila. Sabi ko my daughter is not running. I have told Inday not to run kasi naawa ako sa dadaanan niya na dinaanan ko,” Duterte said during a speech for the inauguration of the Skyway Stage 3.
The president then added that the job is not for women and compared the “emotional set-up” between males and females.
“Hindi ito pambabae. Alam mo, the emotional set-up of a woman and a man is totally different. Maging gago ka dito. That is the sad story.”
This comment earned thousands of disappointed reactions from netizens. Women have stated that someone’s emotional setup has nothing to do with how she leads and added that the president is just “sexist”.

Female leaders around the world have been praised for their effective and immediate actions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. New Zealand, Taiwan, and Germany are often mentioned when it comes to proactive policies and responses. All three countries are led by women.

On January 8, Sara Duterte stated that she has told her father that she did not intend to run in the 2022 elections.
“He also said he did not want me to run but nothing about gender was discussed,” she added.
