Miss Universe-Philippines Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa wore her Panagbenga-inspired national costume during the preliminary competition of the 63rd Miss Universe pageant held at the FIU Arena in Miami, Florida on Wednesday (Thursday morning Manila time).
The long dress was a creation of Columbian designer Alfredo Barraza, which features decorative colorful flowers all way down to flounce.
Well-appreciated replies for country’s bet performance and projection stir up but what is worse, non-bearing comments of netizens’ disapproval drew circles online.
As MJ takes pride and claims the center stage, so as the netizens make fun of her outfit.
Spreading rapidly around social media, here are some memes which compared her outfit to cake and other desserts.
Cebu-based designer Cary Santiago felt proud and happy that impressive MJ represents the country to the much-concluded and awaited Miss Universe pageant. On the other side, Santiago was disappointed that our very own Filipina delegate wasn’t wearing a Pinoy pride gown after all.

Others commented it was indeed the royal cake of Marian-Dingdong wedding. But it isn’t.

Ang terno ni MJ ay isang pagpupugay sa kanta ni Celeste Legaspi, ang “Mamang Sorbetero” O_o
As for me,its ok naman kaya lang sana wala ng mga laces sa harapan na silver, plain na lang na white.
