People are hoping for the reconsideration of the policy requiring Filipinos to wear face shields whenever they step out of them as there is no systematic study proving that face shields can reduce COVID-19 transmission.
Medical anthropologist Dr. Gideon Lasco pointed out that all countries that have controlled their COVID situation never required their citizens to wear face shields.
“It’s time to end the Philippines’ baseless, inconvenient, and environmentally harmful face shield mandate, especially in outdoor spaces where there’s zero evidence of its benefit,” Dr. Lasco said in a recent tweet.
What do all countries that have controlled COVID have in common?
They never required face shields.

Another netizen questioned Dr. Edsel Salvana‘s claim that countries that decided not to use face shields are in a much worse situation than the country.
SalvaƱa: In countries where people never used face shields COVID-19 deaths are "10 times (that in Philippines) per million population.ā
Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Taiwan, Australia, and Vietnam mandate face shield use? I don't think this logic works.

Someone said that aside from it being uncomfortable, it is not good for the environment because of the plastic material.
About damn. Fvcking. Time. Imagine the waste of all these plastics! It's uncomfortable, it doesn't really help and only in the Philippines mandatory ang pagsuot ng face shield na 'to. Jusko š¤¦āāļø https://t.co/aFqj3ImbGu

A netizen pointed out how the Philippines has thousands of new cases every single day even with the use of face shields.
THIS. We're the only country using face shields, yet we have thousands of cases per day. Clearly it's useless. https://t.co/qo5FfLSM0f
